Tired and Emotional

You're all much too generous with your praise and far too free with your use of the term 'amazing'.
Just trying to keep my spirits up, aren't you?
I know your game.
Well, it won't work.
I'm going to be miserable.
So there.

Felt really quite tired yesterday, whether from the Poison we continue to drip into my poor system, or from the Emotion of the Transplant, I'm not sure.
Maybe both.
The poisons are Cyclosporine and Mycophenolate.  As the Transplant Consultant told me on his ward round yesterday, the Cyclosporine removes the ability of T-cells (the Killer white blood cells from my old system) to communicate with each other, thus putting them in Solitary Confinement "like you", he said.
I prefer to think of it as taking away their radios.
Either way, it means they can't mount a co-ordinated attack against the new Stem Cells.
Hooray!

The Transplant itself turned out to be quite an emotional hour.
It was not unlike being at a Birth.
The birth of my new Bone Marrow, I guess.
Spoons in one hand and Julia's hand (attached to Julia) in the other, it was lovely to get so many messages in response to my text saying that the Stem Cells were going in right then and there.
And very affecting.
Thank you all.

Talking of the hand being attached to Julia reminds me of my favourite Tom Lehrer song.
And if you haven't come acroos Tom Lehrer, you've been missing out.
Google him immediately!

The song's called 'I Hold Your Hand in Mine' and it starts like this:

"I hold your hand in mine, dear;
I press it to my lips;
I take a healthy bite from your dainty fingertips.
My joy would be complete, dear,
If you were only here,
But I hold your hand in mine as a precious souvenir.

The night you died I cut it off,
I really don't know why.
And now each time I kiss it,
I get bloodstains on my tie....."

Can't remember any more.
That's enough for now anyway.

  2. ..well remembered on the Tom Lehrer, you only missed the final two lines: "I'm sorry now I killed you, for our love was something fine,/And till (sic) they come to get me I..(high note, pause!) shall hold your hand in mine!" If you're lucky, or maybe not, Bob will sing it to you: he introduced me to TL at Trinity!
You bloody well deserve to be miserable, don't let the buggers cheer you up.
    Love Ian xx

  3. Last night I said to Ian after his concert that you usually need lobster pickers to get his jokes out but I rather like "don't let the buggers cheer you up. " so maybe I will reconsider.

  4. Susie J,
I'm not really mis. Just pretending, to get you all blubbing. Especially you feeble-minded girlies.

    Ian,
Many thanks for supplying the missing lines. But such a shame I can't hear you actually singing it. No, no, no, it's fine really, no need to ring me up and sing it to me.
I seem to remember Bob particularly enjoyed TL's Vatican Rag. For some resaon. Can't think why.
Hope the concert was a wow. I look forward to the next one. Why don't you and Kate do a Tom Lehrer evening?

    Dixie,
He has his moments, our Ian. Except when his putts won't go in. But then that's the major cause of Sense of Humour Failure in the developed world, so he's not alone there. And he lives with one of the funniest women south of the Arctic Circle, which must have had an effect over the years.

Thank you all for your comments.
This Blogging Business is quite fun really.

  8. Dear Patrick, sending you also alot of positive vibes!! Hope you are well today!! I've read the book 'The Intention Experiment' of Lynne McTaggart. It gave me the following idea:
As you have 31 interested followers on your blog , there is a good opportunity to intensify the sending of positive vibes. If we all can do that around the same time for instance twice a day on 10.30 am GMT and 7 pm GMT for 5-15 minutes it will work stronger, give more result.
We just need to create a quiet moment and for instance visualize you in very good shape, big smile on your face, vital, with high spirits, enjoying life together with a very happy Julia somewhere in a beautiful holidayresort. Making plans for the future! Laughing alot, being very content!
That's all we have to do and then feel happy about this as if it already happened. This is an important part.
Lynne McTaggart and also Gregg Braden have shown us this really works!

For you and Julia it is also very good to imagine that this situation or one you prefer, is already there and you feel relieved and happy and so grateful about this moment. You can do this as often as you can. Difficult if you are not feeling well, but maybe there are moments you are in for it.

Mind and Intent are stronger than Body, it is not a joke! You can create.

Maybe a good idea? If people agree with me, then I ask you all to join!

Dear Patrick, much Love, also for Julia
    Luisa

  9. Thanks, All, for comments.

A, consider Julia's mitt suitably squeezed.

P&H, have you been to Katoomba? We stayed in James House hotel there. Good grub, but super-hot weather.

L, we're picturing ourselves in the Gingerbread Cottage we're renting for my convalescence.

Not enough energy to Blog properly today, but great to read your comments.
    A la prochaine.

  10. Hell's teeth.... I got a bit tired this morning in a somewhat boring meeting with a client... so your lack of energy is more than deserved! It's grizzly, drizzly, grey, greasy, damp out there today, so Patrick you are missing nothing!
I'm very happy for a concentrated positive vibe boost, but cannot commit to 10.30am GMT, or dialogue with client would come to complete standstill... I could pretend I was just 'thinking' or having a 'ground breaking idea'...(wonders will never cease), but would be happier with the 7pm slot. (not being non committal, just practical). In my mind's eye, I only see you smiIing... overegging the pudding maybe, but that's just how it is.
I'm very much enjoying the blog, and the accompanying images have had me chuckling away. Have only just found out who Walnut is (she let on)... I will see her as brown and wrinkled from now on (NOT TRUE!) (insert picture of walnut).
    Keep squeezing.... Jo xxx

  11. Well, I'm going for the 7 pm GMT slot along with Jo - whoever you are, Jo! Starting now...Got you both in focus, P & J, and a full contented stomach on this side of Europe. What happens if we don't hit the magic 31, I wonder? Let's see....

  12. Dear all! According to Sally and Jo 7 pm GMT seems a good time for visualizing - making our intent - together. Of course it is also useful when being done individually any other moment of the day!
Joining us at 7 is very welcome.
Maybe you can subtly feel this Patrick. This ethereal hug!
    Love,
    Luisa
